"That 70's Ice Show" May 1st and 2nd, 2010
This year's show featured over 40 skaters from across Central Iowa. Participants included AFSC club members, Learn to Skate students and members of Ames Minor Hockey Association. Our audience got to slip through a "Time Warp" to travel back through the years to classic 8 track hits of the decade. A drive in theater brought back some of the greatest movie music of the day!

2003's "The Voyage of the Ice Maiden..." our 10th annual show! |
The Ice Maiden hit the high seas last spring and provided the audience with a variety of on-board entertainment! Club members wowed the crowd with performances skated to tunes that had a nautical theme. For the second half of the show, we once again transformed the ice arena into a theatrical setting, performing the popular Walt Disney version of "Pocahontas." Former AFSC member and Disney-On-Ice performer Julie Thomas returned to Ames as a very welcome guest skater. |
|
2002's |
Bandanas, Boots and Blades magically transported the audience to the Iowa State Fair for a variety of traditional activities and grandstand entertainment. During the second half of the show, AFSC skaters performed a Wild West Review, featuring cowboys, pioneer settlers, saloon girls and outlaws. |
|
2001's |
The first event in the new Ames/ISU Ice Arena featured Oscar-winning songs, such as "My Heart Will Go On," "Raindrops Keep Fallin' on My Head," and "The Way You Look Tonight." ISU Hockey players and Ames Minor Hockey Mites joined AFSC members in "Alice in Movieland," the exciting Theater on Ice fantasy of a little girl carried away by her Magic Carpet to meet Disney princesses. |
|
2000's |
Thanks for the Memories provided a retrospective of previous shows, as we said farewell to the old ice arena. Previous show numbers such as "New York, New York," "Greased Lightning," "America," and "Under the Sea" were re-choreographed and costumed. The Theater on Ice, Peter Pan, took the audience on magical trip to Never-Never Land. |
|
1999's |
Ice Storm featured weather-themed songs such as "Frosty the Snowman," "Rainbow Connection," and "Walking on Sunshine." For the first time, the AFSC produced a Theater on Ice as part of the show. Forty members of the Ames Figure Skating Club and Ames Minor Hockey Mites skated The Wizard of Oz. |
|
1998's |
Over 50 ice skaters from Ames, Boone, Huxley, Marshalltown, Newton, and Story City skated in groups, solos, and duets to songs from around the United States. Our featured guest skaters were Line Nilsen: Norwegian National Bronze Medalist, Danny Clausen: Senior Men's National Competitor, Jenny Karl: 1994 Junior Ladies' National Champion. |
|
1997's |
Soda Pop Skate Shop highlighted music from the '50s. Songs included "Going to the Chapel," "He's So Fine," and "Rock and Roll is Here to Stay," and "Rave On." Jamie Aaron Kelley, a teenage Elvis Impersonator from Boone, sang while skaters performed "I'm All Shook Up." (By the way, Jamie is now a young man and in 2005, currently one of the most successful Elvis impersonators in the world!) |
|
1996's |
The third show, Broadway Blades, was made up of performances to Broadway show tunes. Some musicals featured in Broadway Blades included: Oliver, Les Miserables, Oklahoma, Cats, West Side Story, The Sound of Music, and The Music Man. The ISU Hockey Team and the Ames Figure Skating Club coaches gave a lively performance of "Oklahoma." |

Skating thru the Years featured songs from the twentieth century, ranging from the '20s to the '90s, such as "Charleston," "Chattanooga Choo Choo," "Yellow Submarine," and "We've Got the Beat." |

A Night at the Movies was themed around popular American movies. Skaters performed to songs from Pinocchio, Annie, Little Mermaid, Footloose and The Phantom of the Opera. Special performances by guest stars Bobby Kaping and Sara Kastner added variety to the show. |
