Skating Tests

What is USFS Testing?

While competitive skaters are required to participate in the U.S. Figure Skating test structure in order to compete, all skaters may opt to take tests as a means of continually challenging themselves and their skating abilities. As a skater advances, the tests become more difficult, so each test passed is a definite cause for celebration. When skaters pass the final test in each pathway, they earn the honor of becoming a U.S. Figure Skating Gold Medalist.
Skaters can test in a number of pathways, including:
  • Skating Skills (Formerly Known As “Moves in the Field”)
  • Singles (Formerly Known As "Free Skate”)
  • Ice Dance
  • Pairs
On average, it takes a skater six years to pass their gold skating skills test and eight years to pass the gold singles test. Click here for more information on USFS figure skating test.
