A Skater's Journey
The Learn to Skate program is the first step in the journey toward club skating at Ames Figure Skating Club. Designed to teach foundational skills, this program prepares skaters for more advanced training. As skaters progress, they can transition into club skating, where they have access to specialized coaching, focused practice sessions, and opportunities for competitive growth. This seamless transition ensures that skaters of all levels have the support and resources they need to achieve their skating goals.
Skaters can opt to become a Club member at nearly any point in their Learn to Skate skating journeys. Many of our skaters become club members as soon as passing Basic 4, although some may choose to join when as they advance through the Freeskate LTS series! See the Skater's Journey roadmap below:

Why Become a Member?
Becoming a member of AFSC enables a skater to participate in U.S Figure Skating events, including competitions and test sessions. Skaters can participate in all AFSC sponsored events, such as the ice show, Holiday Gala, and MORE! Members have access to purchase club ice. This ice time is designated for private lessons, small group lessons, and individual practice. Lastly, you will be able to share in the sport of figure skating with others and form lifelong friendships.
We joined the Ames Figure Skating Club soon after her first spring show with the club. She was just finishing up Basic 5 and having a coach helped her fly through her Freeskate LTS levels! We are so glad we joined the club AND had the great support of the Learn to Skate group learning. What an absolute benefit for our daughter!
